La Cage À L'Unisson
Sandra Chevrier (Canadian, born 1983)
A woman's painted face looks out through torn layers of comic book imagery, with a squad of Iron Men crossing her cheeks where a mask would sit. Montreal artist Sandra Chevrier calls this body of work the Cages, using superhero imagery to question the limits and expectations placed on women. This 1/1 is one of at least seven sheets of the image, each in its own coloring. The torn edges and canvas grain are printed, echoing her paintings.
