Air Kowloon
Eddie Colla (American)
A young woman in a surgical mask and gloves shoulders a boombox as a jet skims the high-rises, a memory of the low approach into Hong Kong's old Kai Tak Airport. Colla, an Oakland street artist who began as a photographer, uses masks and gloves as signs of fear and protection. He removed the print paper so only the pigment remained, then sanded each panel by hand, so no two are alike.
